Shanti is a 33#, sweet, socially awkward, ball of energy! She is a curious little adventurer that is deaf. She tends to listen with her heart and just follows her nose to new adventures. She’s loving, playful and loves/needs her people. She does have STRONG typical herding dog tendencies (See below for info on heelers), she startles easily if she’s touched and hasn’t seen you so not suited for a family with children. Shanti needs a forever family that’s willing to put in the time to train her. For her safety, her ideal family would have a yard with a 6 ft. fence. Her forever family should be willing and able to spend enough time to train with sign so she can be a good canine family member, be willing to use care with open doors so she doesn’t slip away and go exploring on her own, keep her on a leash during all her out-and-about time (regardless of training with sign commands or use of vibrating collars as her herding/chasing instincts are so strong). Due to her total deafness, she needs these supports to be safe from wildlife as well as city or farm dangers. So far, she has learned some signs including: come, stay/stop, shh, no/stop it, off, go car, eat/food, move here/there, sit, down (hates the sit and down…lol), we’re working on go bed/rest and other “words”. She’s finally feeling like a full pack member and it shows in her confidence.
